Some Information About Chihuahua Dogs
|
Chihuahua dogs have been called the smallest god on earth. They were honored by the Aztecs prior to the
arrival of the Spanish conquistidors. Being smaller than even the cats that were worshiped by the ancient Egyptians, the Chihuahua may well
have earned that title.
Chihuahuas are thought to have originally been bred in Mexico. Because of this, they are named after the state of Chihuahua in that country.
Their ancestors were somewhat larger, and may have been associated with some religious
ceremonies of the ancient Aztecs. Stone carvings in the Cholula pyramids are used to support this theory that the Chihuahua was important to
Aztec religious ceremonies and practices.
Chihuahuas generally weigh between two and six pounds. At six to nine inches tall, they're the smallest breed of dog in the world.

The Chihuahua dogs, in terms of size, naturally weigh around 2 to 6 pounds. They stand at a height of only 6 to 9 inches, making it the
smallest canine breed on earth. They are known for having a soft, smooth, glossy coat. A prized Chihuahua will have a shiny coat with an
excellent texture. There is also a long-haired breed, prized for the length of its coat. The long-haired Chihuahua may have curly or straight
hair, and may be very soft to the touch. Chihuahuas are available in a number of vivid coat colors. These can include black, brown, white, and
fawn. Solid colors or tri-colors appear with significant regularity.
Chihuahuas are a very energetic breed, prone to excitement. They move with reasonable grace, however, and have been noted for their human like
expressions. This may be one reason that they have featured in recent commercials. Chihuahuas are also known for their great devotion and
tendency to bond to their owners. Because of this, they require a lot of attention and affection. This makes them great companions, but can lead
to problems if you don't have a lot of time. Chihuahua dogs are popular with children and with the elderly. They can be somewhat aggressive
against strangers, however.
Be careful when keeping a Chihuahua. Their short coats and the fact that they were bred in a hot climate mean that they are very sensitive to
cold. They can also suffer from heatstroke if they are in the sun for too long. This, and the dogs' small size, is one of the reasons that most
Chihuahuas are indoor dogs. They are well suited to live in apartments, though, like all dogs, they must be allowed to exercise regularly.
