Boxers - Intelligent, Low Maintenance Dogs

Most people have their own taste when they are trying to choose a dog; however, there are some traits that everyone wants to have when it comes to owning a dog. The following are a few traits that everyone wants in a dog.

Intelligent - One trait that many people want in a dog is intelligence. When it comes to boxers, you will find that they are very smart and they are both obedient and loyal as well.

Low Maintenance - Most people also look for
low maintenance when it comes to a dog as well. This means that you will not have to spend a great deal of effort, time, and money on keep your dog healthy, clean, and active. Some types of dogs that have very long hair may be very hard to take care of. Boxers have shorter hair and they do not require a great deal of maintenance.

Versatile - People usually also look for dogs that do more than tricks. Usually they want them to be obedient, agile, and intelligent as well. Dogs that can obey well while still being very fun and playful as well. Boxers are also very versatile dogs as well, and they are obedient, agile, and intelligent.

Boxer Looks
When you take a look at a boxer, you will probably notice their face first, which is quite blunt. They are actually a descendent from Molossian Hounds, and they are very friendly, they have a steady gaze, and you will also se some sparks of mischief in their eyes and faces as well.

Boxers are also quite muscular and their coat is fairly short as well. The males usually about 22-25 inches tall at the withers and they weight about 70 lbs. The females are a bit smaller, with a height of about 21-23 inches and they weigh about 60 pounds.

History of Boxers
The Molossian Hound is an ancestor of the boxer, and they were a very ancient Greek breed that was used for herding, guarding, and fighting. Various breeds of dogs, European, Greek, British, and Roman, were descendents of this type of a hound. These dogs were also used to help men hunt and in war as well.

Boxers actually come from Molossians of the German line. From these dogs came two lines, Danzigers and Brabanters. The Brabanters were the royal dogs, and they were used for hunting as well. Eventually these dogs finally became known as boxers, although no one is quite sure exactly how they got their name.
